This is a story about 3 African American female mathematicians who worked for NASA (National Aeronautic and Space Administration) during the space race in the 1960s. Taraji P. Henson plays Katherine Johnson, who was instrumental in the calculation of flight trajectories for project Mercury and other missions. Octavia Spencer plays Dorothy Vaughn and Janelle Monae as Mary Jackson.

This is the film adaptation of the Winnie Mandela: A life biography by Anne MarieDu Preez Bezrob. TD Jakes produced the movie. Jennifer Hudson plays Winnie Mandela and Terrence Howard Nelson Mandela. The story shows Winnie Mandela’s childhood and the struggles she faced as she stood by her husbands side during the Apartheid.

This movie shows how Betty Shabazz (Malcolm X’s widow) and Coretta Scott King (Martin Luther King’s widow) deal with the loss of their husbands. It also shows how they struggle with being single mothers and upholding the legacy of MLK And Malcolm X. Mary J. Blige plays Betty and Angela Bassett plays Coretta.

  • What’s Love Got to Do With It

This movie is loosely based on the life of Tina Turner and the struggles she had to overcome. It focuses on her abuse relationship with Ike Turner. Angela Bassett plays Tina Turner and Lawrence Fishburne plays Ike Turner.

This is a movie on the life of Dorothy Dandridge an American film and theatre actress, singer and dancer. She was the first African American actress to be nominated for an academy award. Halle Berry plays Dorothy Dandridge.
