The caffeine in green tea acts as a stimulant that aids weight loss and promotes exercise performance. The caffeine content in green tea is a lot less than the caffeine content in coffee. It contains a special type of antioxidant called EGCG (Epigallocategin gallate), which causes the fat cells to break down more fat.

Studies have shown that green tea increases the ability to burn fat during exercise. It  also decreases appetite and targets visceral fat, which is closely linked to type II diabetes and heart disease.
