This is a biographical film on the life of the late legendary rapper and activist Tupac Shakur. The film was released on the 16th of June 2017; this would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday. Demetrius Shipp Jr. starred as Tupac Shakur, some critics claim that he indeed looks like Shakur and did a good job playing him. However, other critics claim that he failed to capture Tupac’s personality and talent. The film is rated 6.3/10 on IMDb and 22% on rotten tomatoes. Rapper 50 cents caused some controversy by calling the movie trash.
Actress Jada Pinkett Smith who was very close to Tupac while he was alive said the portrayal of her relationship with Tupac in the film was not accurate. She claimed Tupac never read a poem to her and they never had a backstage argument. She did however, praise the performance of the Demetrius Shipp Jr. and Kat Graham (the actress who played Jada)
Sean Combs and Suge Knight praised the film and showed their support. The film is still showing in theatres in the US and will be released in the UK on the 30th of June. It is being released in several countries in Europe.
