US officials say that the suicide bomber who killed 22 people and injured dozens in Manchester Arena shortly after an Ariana Grande concert on Monday the 22nd of May 2017 is 22-year old Salman Abedi. There are many children among the dead and injured. The police were called to reports of the explosion at 10:33 pm, there were over 240 emergency calls and 60 ambulances as well as 400 police officers flooded the area.
The Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility for the bombing earlier. The registered street where Salman Abedi resided is under investigation. The other inhabitants of the street said they know little about those who live that house.
This is the worst terror attack to hit Britain since the July 2005 suicide bomb attacks in London in which 52 people died. Speaking outside Downing Street, the prime minister, Theresa May condemned the killer and labelled him a coward. She also hailed all those who rushed in to help, she said they had shown “the spirit of Britain…a spirit through many years of conflict and terrorism has never been broken and will never be broken”. She also said, “the terrorists will never win and our values, our country and our way of life will never prevail”. The queen of England released a statement saying the whole country is shocked by the act of barbarity.
Due to the terror attack, the general election campaign has been suspended.
