Time to Leave Zuma!!
Jacob Zuma the current president of South Africa is being asked to step down at the end of his five-year term in 2019 by South African trade unions. Zuma recently fired the Finance Minister Parivan Gordhan. This caused a further decline to South Africa’s credit rating. Unfortunately, the South African economy has not been in a good position for a while now.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has almost 2 million members. It has an alliance with two major South African political parties. The ANC (African National Congress) and SACP (South African Communist Party). The COSATU and SACP, feel strongly that the president should resign because he refused to consult the COSATU before making the decision to fire the Finance Minister.
There have been demonstrations on the streets of Pretoria. Zuma’s administration has been plagued by a lot of scandals. There have been quite a few attempts to get rid of Zuma but all have failed.
The new Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has told South African’s to not be discouraged. He remains confident that the economy will bounce back.
